Homemade Strawberries & Cream Oatmeal

Aug 17, 2012 ~ Leave a Comment ~ Written by Daphne

For whatever reason, because my husband is going out of town this weekend and leaving me and my son at home with no car, it motivated me to do stuff that I should do on a daily basis anyway.  Getting to the point – we went and got a whole bunch of food for my son and me so we’d have enough to last us while my husband was gone and I came up with all sorts of things that my son likes to eat and opted to find more affordable options.

My son likes those Beech Nut and Gerber pre-made oatmeal breakfasts that cost about $2 a pop.  For breakfast, that’s a little much, plus, I wanted to be able to know and control what goes into my sons food since the little Gerber meals are beginning to be less food than he needs at each meal.  With that in mind, I made him strawberries and cream oatmeal so simply and with so few ingredients, I had to let everyone know!

Strawberries & Cream Oatmeal

1/8 cup oats
1/4 cup whole milk
2 strawberries, cut into bite sized pieces

Mix together in a bowl and microwave on high for 1 minute.

And that’s all there is to it.  Simple, right?  I thought, it couldn’t be much more trouble than that, and it really wasn’t.  Over the next few days, I’m going to try it with peaches and bananas to see if those will be just as popular with my son.  I opted to try it with fruits with a large amount of natural sugars to avoid having to add any extra sugar, so we’ll see how it works out.

Aside from just three simple ingredients and no added sugar, you can use everything organic for extra piece of mind.  The recipe is in baby sized portions, so you could double the recipe once or twice for an adult sized portion and microwave for a minute longer.
